Technical
Overview
The device under test supported PCI as well as PCI-Express interfaces.
In the bus-mastering mode it transferred data from system
memory
to its local memory. Challenge
The faulty hardware emulator was erroneously taken to be a golden
reference. It was not until all other possible suspects were eliminated
that we were able to point to the hardware emulator as being the
culprit. Solution
An uncommon but valid PCI transaction revealed the problem.
The
next step was capturing the waveform of this transaction, and
diplomatically providing the analysis of this data to the third party
vendor. From this evidence, the necessary solution was apparent. What
was expected to be a customer system verification task turned out to be
a vendor system validation task. Results
Armed with this data, the vendor was able to rectify the problem within
a week. The customer was then able to make great headway with
other software development and verification tasks.
